Week 14: Storytelling

The Second Circle

My name is Dante. It is now the third day of my journey with my guide. Every minute and second that passes I am afraid of what we will encounter. There are spirits that do not understand how or why I am allowed into the Inferno and they question my guide all the time. However, it is a higher power that has allowed my entry. There is so much to learn here and the more than I learn, the more I pray for my own soul. Today we left the first circle and ascended into the second circle. I asked my guide why the souls in this circle where there. His answer was very simple the sinners that took part of this circle where their because of their flesh, their carnal sins. Their sins varied from vanity and luxury to lust and adultery.

I had no idea that I would see many people that I had heard about in my childhood in this place. Can you believe that Cleopatra was in the second circle?! I was so shocked too. After my guide had named the ancient knights and women I felt sad and I felt bad for them. I thought they were good people and I couldn't imagine the hell (literally), that they were going through. My guide could tell that I was upset so he grabbed my arm and navigated me through the second circle so that I could gather myself up.

As we were walking I noticed some souls that were near to me. I am they were very very close and I did not understand why they were so close to us. I asked my guide and told me that they were close because they had souls that went together. Love was the reason that they were there. It was in the midst of these souls that I met Paolo and Francesca but I spoke to Francesca the most. She told me how her destiny was changed when it all started with a kiss. Can you imagine that? Her husband killed her after he found out about her affair with Paolo. I can imagine she regrets it as it was only a moment of weakness but since their souls are together I can only assume she really did love him.

All I know after visiting this second circle is that I will now watch my back and make sure that love and any other carnal feeling will not lead me to this circle. I am frightened and I never want to send my eternal days there.

Author's Note :
I used the story Dante's Inferno : Paolo and Francesa to inspire my story this week. I really enjoyed this section of the reading that I did not really change any of the plot. The only thing that I did to make this story my own is that I made the story as if it were Dante telling the story in his own words or in a diary. I felt like this way it would be easier for the reader to know what was going on and more about Dante's feelings as he was navigating the second circle.

Reading Diary A: Dante's Inferno

Limbo

  • the demons of the inferno would change colors when they were tired and weary
  • they would also speak blasphemies against God and all those that followed God
  • they all were tired but they went to the shore where all those that do not follow God meet
  • the reason that they meet at this shore is so that good spirits cannot pass
  • When Dante went into the heathens he said that is was very dark and very deep and clouded
  • in the first circle of the abyss there was no sound other than the tremble of the earth that was made by the sorrows of the men and the women
  • these people where there not because they had sinned but because they were living beings and their life had value
  • they were in the heathens because they did not value that worth of life since they were not baptized and that alone was enough for them to be damned
  • by doing so they did not follow God and Christianity correctly
  • when Dante was told this he was sad because he was certain that he knew good people that were not baptized that were probably in this situation
  • in the end Dante finds out that no human was saved before the time of Adam
  • Jesus saved Adam and all those that came after him after he came into the Limbo and saved their souls

Week 13 Review

Review

This blog assignment was very informative to me as I did not that you could backup account such as Blogger and Google Sites. That was a very helpful tool and I am glad that I now know how to do that. As I was looking through the announcements it was very hard not to laugh and immediately choose the Dante's Inferno announcement as my favorite. Those actions in the pictures are something that I can definitely relate to.

Week 13 : Famous Last Words

Famous Last Words

Wow, it is the end of Week 13! I feel really excited yet overwhelmed that this semester is almost over. I have had an overall great semester but there are two classes that I am afraid I might not get the grade that I was wishing for. In one of the classes (cell bio) I will be glad that I pass that class even if that means a C although I really want a B but that class is SO HARD. I have been sick in the past weeks and I have missed quite a bit of class time in my Spanish class so I am afraid that participation points might inhibit the possibility of getting an A. I hope that this is not the case and I will be speaking to my professor this week. In this class however, I am on track to get the grade that I wish (along with my other 2 classes) so I am feeling a good about a solid end to this semester. As the end of this course approaches I really want to focus on spending more time with my reading unit this week and analyzing the stories carefully. Sometimes when I am reading in order to choose my favorite to do my blog post I find myself dozing off so that is something that I want to change.

Week 13 storytelling went really great for me, as I had already done the assignment many weeks ago on accident. At the time I was a little frustrated that I had made that mistake but when week 13 rolled by this week and I didn’t have to worry about writing a story I was grateful for my mistake. The only things that I needed to do for that post this week was change the week and the date and update my declaration. It is too bad that I did not make the same mistake more than once, haha.

Google Timer Tech Tip

Google Timer

With finals and dead week just around the corner it is very important that I stay productive and on schedule. I have this really bad habit of surfing the internet and using my phone or even staring blackly into my screen when I am not at all interested in the subject that I am suppose to be studying (it happens SOOO much with cellular biology). I am glad that I have found this time that way I can make sure that once my time is up I really have to get focused. I think that I found this tool just in time!

Storytelling Week 13: The exchange

The Exchange

There once was a father who had three beautiful daughters. They were the most beautiful of the town. His daughters were his most prized possession and he would take really good care of them until he faced financial problems. The father had a problem that he kept away from his family. He was very addicted to gambling and he had recently lost a lot of money and his bills were starting to stack up. He didn't want his family to find out about his problems and he needed to relieve some stress, he decided that he would go hunting.

While we went hunting, he became distracted due to his obsessive thoughts about all of his debt. Without his knowing, he had taken the wrong path and when he looked around he had no idea where he was. He tried to find his way back but it was of no use. He was absolutely lost and he had no solution. He starting screaming, "HELP, HELP, HELP ME". Suddenly, a bear hunter came out of the woods and walked towards the father. "How can I help you"?, he said. "I am lost and I do not know how to get back. Could you please help me out?" The hunter replied, "This is my land and I only help out those who can give me something in return. What can you offer me?" The father knew that he had no money so he could not offer that to the hunter but he did have a beautiful house and without thinking about it twice he said, "I will give you my house. I have nothing more to give you". The hunter then smirked and said, "Oh but you do have something that you can give me... You have the most beautiful daughters in town. I will give you money so you can get back on your feet. In return for my help and money I will get to choose with daughter of yours I want to marry." The father was relieved and he never knew that his daughters could save him from such trouble. He was money hungry and because he would get money in return he decided his daughter for money was a fair trade.

The eldest daughter and the hunter were married and the father was content. Years passed and his money was scarce and he decided it was time to go back into the woods...

Author's Note:

I took this story from The Bear, the Eagle, and the Fish  from the Czech Unit. I decided to this story but it was very interesting to me how this father traded his daughters off for some money in return. I decided to make this story a little less mythical by using a bear hunter instead of a bear approaching the father. I also added some dialogue so that the reader could have some in depth knowledge of the conversation going on with the father. The original story went on with the trade of the two other daughters however I wanted to add suspense by ending my story with the father going back into the woods.

Growth Mindset Week 13

Meme found in MemeBlog

I really love this meme! I hear very often that the best things in life are the ones that you worked the hardest for. This makes me think a lot of my family. My family wasn't very acceptive of my relationship with my husband for various reasons but I fought and worked hard for what I wanted. It was really hard to have my dad turn his back on me for awhile but now I see how far we have come and I do not regret it at all because it was all worth it. The same thing with college. I am always complaining about how hard it is but even if I did have the choice to go back in time I would still come to college because I know that in the end it will be worth it.
